The Relay - How, What, Help!

Running is better with friends!

Running is better with friends!

So you don’t think you can run the entire Golden Ultra as a solo, but you still want to come and check out the scene for the weekend?  Grab some friends and enter a relay team.

Unlike some other running stage races, a team entry is not about running the event together: it’s about divide and conquer!  You'll need a runner that can complete each stage - one for each day.

Each team will require an individual with the stamina for the 55km “Sweat” stage, but the Blood and Tears stages are much more amenable to trail runners looking for a less-than-all-day commitment.  Consider putting in a team that can celebrate big goal achievements on each leg: first vertical KM, first ultramarathon, first 20 km.  How fun would that be?

Two-person teams (one person runs two stages) are totally legitimate and welcome, although there is no price difference between the two and three person teams.

We’ll be awarding prizes for the top all-male, all-female and mixed teams over the three days.

The Golden Ultra is a three-day stage running race (or relay) in Golden, BC from September 18-20, 2015.  Runners may participate in all three stages as a solo or part of a relay, or may register for any single or combination of two stages separately.

Golden Ultra Officially Opens Registration for 2015 Event

November 22, 2014 - (Golden, BC) Golden, BC will be hosting its first ever ultramarathon and stage trail running event from September 18-20, 2015.  This will be the first major trail running event on the beautiful single-track trails of Golden, drawing runners from across Western Canada and the North Western USA.

The Golden Ultra features three stages: The Blood, The Sweat and The Tears.  Runners may participate solo in the stage race, as a relay team of three, or may register for any single stage individually.

The Blood is a 5 km, 1000 m vertical gain effort, known as a vertical kilometre.  This event will start at the bottom of the gondola at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and finish at the top, traversing a variety of single track trails and steep ski runs on the way up.

Stage 2, The Sweat, will be the toughest day for most: 55 km of running, including 2500 m of elevation gain.  This stage starts from the Town of Golden, summits Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and returns to Spirit Square on the Kicking Horse River.

The final day, The Tears, is a relatively easy 20 km trail run with only 375 m of elevation gain.  This final stage is sure to be popular with trail runners who are looking for a flatter and faster course.

Kicking Horse Lodging has partnered with the Golden Ultra to offer an accommodation and meals package for participants.  Single and double occupancy options are available through the online registration system.
