Eggnog is great, but if you're looking for a slightly less indulgent way to ring in the holiday season, we've tracked down some of North America's most jolly jaunts. Break out your running shoes, sexy Santa suits, and get to your nearest start line. Or, get inspired to get out of dodge for the next holiday season and track down one of your favourite festive races! The best part is, all of these fun runs are partnered with a charity or opportunity to give back to a worthwhile cause.
The Elf Run meanders through Stanley Park, starting at Lumberman’s Arch. The course passes through the winter forest trails before looping onto the seawall where you'll get rad views of Coal Harbour and Burrard Inlet. Naturally, there are "Festive Cheering" and Water & Hot Chocolate stations, before finishing up at the Winter Wonderland Park. With reasonable inclines and paved trails, the course is suitable for all ages and abilities. Bring your dog, or your baby! Maybe your dog is your baby! Regardless - this race is partnered with the incredible Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.
At the JBR, all runners are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. You also get a bunch of sweet swag, like a Santa hat and jingle bells. Dress up, tie bells into your shoelaces, and help those in need this holiday season. Plus this one seems like a great excuse to get out of the cold for a few days.
The Ugly Sweater Run presented by Kahlúa (sign us up?!) is a US running series benefitting One Warm Coat. Calling all Colorado based Ultra-ers - this one looks FUN. You get to shoot marshmallow guns, play in some fake snow, hang out in a life-size snow globe, enjoy a complimentary Kahlúa cocktail (21+) ... what more does anyone need? Pics or it didn't happen.
This run takes place at night! Which means this little ditty is actually a bar crawl meets running race. It's a mere 1/4 mile cruise of all the watering holes in Dallas' West End. But with dance contests, a Vodka Festival, and the sexiest Santa award...Texas doesn't hold back! Dallas is also known for it's funky culture and incredible food scene. So many reasons to run on down.
