5 Reasons to Cross the Border for the Golden Ultra!

Every year, more and more of our friends south of the border make the trip up to run with us every September! And to our delight - they keep coming back. Here are a few reasons why our vibrant little mountain town should be on your international radar next fall!

  1. Parks on parks on parks. Golden is situated in the Columbia Trench between the Canadian Rocky Mountains and Purcell Mountains, giving us quick access to six of Canada’s epic National Parks: Banff, Glacier, Jasper, Kootenay, Mount Revelstoke and Yoho. It’s no surprise that our humble location has lended us to being named #2 on the list of the most active towns in Canada! No matter which direction you’re traveling from on your way to the start line - you’ll be driving past trails to run, mountains to bike, canyons to raft, glaciers to climb...well, I think you get the idea. All you have to do is pack your bags.

  2. Easy access. Hop on the Transcanada Highway 1 and you’ll find Golden just a 3 three-hour drive west of the Calgary International Airport with plenty to see along the way. You’ll pass through the Canadian Rockies, Banff National Park, Yoho National Park and the Kicking Horse Pass. Coming from the south? No problem. Drive up the i-95 and we’re only a few hours from the border. There are border crossings in Montana, Idaho, and Washington (depending on where you’re coming from). Coming from out West? Take a meander up through the Okanagan Valley and visit a world class winery or two...really it’s a question of which road trip to take first?

  3. The price is right. A trip across the border to Canada has quite an appeal right now with an exchange rate that is very favorable to Americans. As this blog is being written, 1 US dollar gets you 1.28 Canadian dollars. You’re literally making money as soon as you cross into the great white north. Cancel that trip to Mexico and consider your next trip to Golden an investment in your future.

  4. Authentic mountain town. If you get along with humble, easy going, salt of the earth type people - you’re going to have a good time in Golden. Lifestyle is king, and if you’re not having fun outside, then you’re not doing it right. You’ll meet locals on the bike trails, on the river, and at the farmers market - not to mention anywhere else where nature allows us to entertain ourselves.

  5. Damn good coffee and beer. Start your day with a piping hot cup of fairly traded coffee from the bustling Purcell Coffee Roasters downtown. Insert nature here. Then finish it at Whitetooth Brewery. Whitetooth hit the ground running December 2016, and now have an impressive 12 diverse beers - ranging from Belgian inspired, to West Coast influenced - rotating on tap to satisfy all your post activity thirsts. Grab a growler to fill, or a bomber bottle to go. Now operating a seasonal beer garden style patio, and an intimately modern tasting room - there’s no reason NOT to stop here for a flight or a pint on your way to, or fro your adventures.
