Location

The event will be hosted at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, BC.  

Package Pick-up - Eagle’s Eye Restaurant (Top of Gondola) (9:00 am - 10:00 am)
Start - 10:30 am (Top of Gondola)
Awards - Awards will be held at the top of the gondola at 12:00 pm.

Weather - you can start obsessing about your ensemble with the help of Environment Canada or Snow-Forecast.

Course, Distance and Elevation Gain

The course will start and finish at the top of Gondola. The 10 km event is 2 laps of a 5 km loop. The 5 km event is one lap. More details on the specific course routing will be release in mid-June.

The course will be a mix of single-track and double track. You may have to cross a couple small patches of snow, depending on snowmelt in the alpine.

Spectators

Spectators are welcome to view the event.  The best viewing area will be at the top of the Gondola - you can see the start, finish and most of the course from this “eagle’s eye” view.  Lift tickets are required and can be purchased at Guest Services from 9:00 am on the day of the event.

Please note that dogs are not permitted on the mountain.

Safety

Please run with your head up and make lots of noise.  We do not anticipate any encounters with wildlife on the course, based on the course routing and information currently available to us. You are not required to carry bear spray. We do remind you that you are in a wild mountain environment and bear spray is always a good safety measure.  There will be bear spray available to purchase for $35+gst/can at registration.

Categories

Awards will be split into the following age groupings for both male and female.

Open - all comers
Junior - age on race day, categories 0-10, 10-12, 12-15, and 16-19
Master - age on race day, categories 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+

Registration is $50 for the 10 km and $30 for the 5 km (plus GST) until June 15, 2019. After June 15, the prices go up to $65 for the 10 km and $40 (plus GST) for the 5 km.

Online registration will close at midnight on June 28, 2019. You may register in person on July 1 between 9 am and 10 am but there will be a $10 late registration fee applied to all registrations purchased on July 1.

All participants will be required to sign a waiver at race package pickup on July 1. Please allow extra time to undertake this process.

Registration does not include lift tickets. We recommend purchasing a summer season pass to the resort so you can have unlimited access to the great trails at the top of the resort. You can do so online here: https://kickinghorseresort.com/purchase/summer-season-passes/. Otherwise - racers can grab a day pass for $10 and friends/family for $25.

Canadian Mountain Running Championships

This race is part of the 2019 Canadian Regional Mountain Running Qualifying Series. Running this race may allow you to be eligible for the 2020 Canadian Mountain Running Championships.

To qualify for the 2020 Canadian Mountain Running Championships, athletes must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • you have previously competed for Canada in Mountain Running or Cross-Country Running at the international level in the last 5 years (NACAC, Worlds or Commonwealth Championships)

  • you finish in the top five (5) in your age group in one or more Canadian Regional Mountain Running Qualifying Series Races in one of the following regions:

    • British Columbia -- Note: Must run at least two races to qualify

    • Prairies -- Note: Must run at least two races to qualify

    • Ontario -- Note: Must run at least two races to qualify

    • Quebec

    • Atlantic

  • you request and are granted an exemption from qualifying, including that you have run a competitive time in a mountain running race or trail running race in 2019 or 2020, or have run under 36 minutes (men) or 40 minutes (women) for 10 kilometres in 2019 or 2020 in a sanctioned road or cross-country race or any other equivalent race result. All applications for an exemption will be considered.
